Pokémon is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year and to celebrate this landmark milestone in style they are collaborating with several high-profile music artists across the year. Maverick have helped to bring this vision to life, supporting the collaboration between The Pokémon Company International and Universal Music Group to create a series of music videos featuring iconic Pokémon.
Navigating international live-action shoots with global music stars and CGI animation (all during the toughest of Covid restrictions) was a huge challenge, but we deployed our team of highly skilled Mavericks in order to make this happen for our clients.
These music videos mark the first in a series of major collaborations for The Pokémon Company International, all leading up to the much anticipated Pokémon 25: The Album due for release later this year, and we're super excited about more of the work we'll be able to share with you over coming months.
Katy Perry - Electric
Kicking off the year-long campaign was the Katy Perry single, "Electric".
Shot in Hawaii, the video depicts the story of Katy's early years in music before her rise to stardom. The video follows Katy as she revisits some key moments in her life, whilst exploring the island and accompanied by her favourite Pokémon, Pikachu and Pichu.
Don't be fooled by the glorious sunshine, the rain on set was torrential!
Mabel - Take it Home
Fresh off the heels of Katy Perry’s “Electric”, we're also excited to have collaborated with The Pokémon Company International on Mabel’s “Take It Home”.
Tasked with giving Jigglypuff – Mabel’s favourite Pokémon – its moment in the spotlight, we helped bring the spritely singer to this musical dreamscape (while cautiously avoiding letting her sing) in collaboration with the incredible director Sophia Ray.
Some would say it was inevitable that Jigglypuff would break into the music industry, suffice to say we are very proud to have had a hand in its starring debut.
